Camping weekend

It was our first time to camp at Mt Barney Lodge and the situation is spectacular, if rather expensive. We arrived mid Saturday morning and headed up Mt Gillies behind the Lodge. It was a good climb and we enjoyed the views. After lunch on top we descended into a lovely sheltered gully to clamber down over some rocks before returning to set up camp at 3 pm. It was pleasant with 9 of us and a good campfire.
Next morning we packed up and headed for Mt Maroon for our climb which was challenging on well marked track with a number of other walkers on the day. Lunch on top with expansive views made the effort well worthwhile and we made the descent without incident and by 3pm so we got home just after 6 after dropping Keith at home.
