We were thinking of camping with the bushwalkers this weekend but by the end of last week we felt tired and stayed at home. This led to participation in our local shire Australia Day events on Saturday. We visited the Oakey Museum of Australian Flying and saw a display of planes and helicopters with mixed feelings about military stuff. Then we drove out to Jondaryan Woolshed which also had [almost] free admission and wandered around old sheds and machinery. Fortunately it was not a hot day. The woolshed is impressive.
Summer has arrived with dried vistas and with the warmer weather, an early autumn emerges as stressed plants shed leaves. We are spending a lot of time watering and the tank is now below the upper tap. There is no rain in sight. We mowed the lucerne and green patches of grass to provide some mulch to the poor vegies. Despite this we continue to enjoy beans, lettuce, ruby chard, corn and tomatoes. We also have some eggplants developing.
A black faced cuckoo shrike has been visiting lately. The wrens are also about, as well as our usual brown honeyeaters, finches, thornbills, mapgies, crested pigeons and galahs. The bird baths get plenty of use.
