A mixed recital
Last night the Twilight Recital at USQ was a tribute to Peter Rorke, a former head of the music department, composer, conductor and teacher, who died 10 years ago. We started with Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man with Toowoomba Municipal Band members, then arrangements of My Fair Lady excerpts by Rorke for Glennie and Grammar Orchestra. Three Dances for Two Flutes by Schocker was played well by two former students, then the USQ Strings played two Rorke compositions, the first with a very good solo violinist. We then enjoyed Arthur Johnson singing Schubert Lieder and a strident and enjoyable Festive by Shostakovich played by the Toowoomba Municipal Band - a very good collection of brass players. It turned out to be a very good program.
