The Hilliard Ensemble

While we were in Canberra, I was fortunate to go with Lee to hear the Hilliard Ensemble from England and the Australian Chamber Orchestra at Llewellyn Hall. The programme commenced with Elgar Serenade for Strings in E minor Op. 20, then 15th century Sheryngham Ah Gentle Jesu, followed by contemporary Russian Raskatove's Obikhod and Estonian composer  Arvo Part - Most Holy Mother of God.
After interval we started with 9th century Gregorian chant Veni, Creator Spiritus, interwoven with a medieval French version and a work of the same title by Australian composer Ross Edwards. The concert concluded with Arensky's Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky Op 35a.
